Want to know when is the best time to apply for a Youth In Mission team?

Need to know when your fundraising payments are due?

The annual calendar and participant timeline that follow will help walk you through the process.

Fall 2008:

Interested students and young adults (ages 18-25) submit an application via the World Wide Web. The application includes information regarding personal, educational, spiritual and medical issues. A pastor, residential coordinator, employer, and peer for each applicant submit reference forms.

November 2008 / January 2009:

Applications for potential team members are due to the Youth In Mission office by December 1, 2008. Applicants are notified of their acceptance by the end of December and are asked to commit to a decision by the end of January.

January 2009:

In January, accepted Youth In Mission participants are placed on teams. They begin "friendraising" and start Advance Training. Monthly Ministry Information Letters are posted on the web to assist participants with their preparation.

February 2009:

Accepted participants are working through YIM Advance Training, which includes reading a spiritual formation book, meeting with a mentor, and continue their friendraising efforts. Where needed, language study for their site is encouraged. During this time, we will be in ongoing contact with the site, making sure we have all of the information we need to adequately train and prepare the team.

May 2009:

In late May, early June, participants attend a week of intense instruction at Youth In Mission Training Camp. At Training Camp, team preparation focuses specifically on those skills requested by the sites. In addition, there is considerable time devoted to the participant's spiritual development and preparation.

June / July 2009:

Immediately following the Training Camp, Youth In Mission teams depart for their respective areas where they serve for seven weeks.

July 2009:

Youth In Mission teams depart from their respective sites during the week of July 23 to gather for a time of debriefing.
